Why Genetics Matters in Fertility

Our genes play a critical role in reproduction — influencing:

  • Egg development and quality

  • Sperm function

  • Fertilisation success

  • Embryo development

  • Early pregnancy progression

Recent research has identified hundreds of genes associated with fertility and IVF outcomes. When something isn’t working as expected, genetics may be a contributing factor.

A Personalised, Supportive Approach

Genetic testing is not one-size-fits-all.

That’s why the process begins with an individual consultation, where your fertility history and experience are carefully reviewed. You’ll receive guidance on:

  • Whether genetic testing is appropriate

  • Which tests may be most informative

  • What the results could mean for your fertility journey

There is no pressure to proceed with testing — the goal is to empower you with knowledge and options.

Who May Benefit from Fertility Genetic Testing?

You may consider fertility genetic testing if you have experienced:

  • Most or all eggs retrieved during IVF are immature

  • Eggs fail to fertilise during IVF

  • Embryos do not progress to the blastocyst stage

  • Repeated IVF cycles with limited or no success

  • Genuine empty follicle syndrome

  • Recurrent pregnancy loss

  • Multiple molar pregnancies or abnormal chromosomal results (e.g. triploid/polyploid embryos)

  • A diagnosed fertility condition (e.g. premature ovarian insufficiency or azoospermia)

  • Clinical suspicion that infertility may have a genetic cause

Earlier Answers, Better Decisions

For many patients, genetic testing has traditionally been introduced late in the fertility journey. However, earlier insight can:

  • Reduce emotional and financial strain

  • Guide more targeted treatment strategies

  • Improve understanding of IVF outcomes

  • Support informed reproductive choices

This approach helps move beyond uncertainty — offering clarity, direction, and personalised next steps

Introducing Comprehensive Fertility Genetic Testing

Advanced fertility genetic testing combines cutting-edge genomic science with genetic counselling to provide deeper insight into:

  • Unexplained infertility

  • IVF challenges and outcomes

  • Recurrent pregnancy loss

  • Known fertility diagnoses

This approach helps move beyond uncertainty — offering clarity, direction, and personalised next steps.

Our Process

Step 1: Pre-Test Genetic Counselling

Your journey begins with a one-on-one consultation with Katrina Harrison, registered and board certified genetic counsellor.

  • A detailed review of your fertility journey, including your personal and family medical history

  • Discussion of your current fertility goals and treatment experiences

  • Clear explanation of available genetic testing options, including benefits and limitations

  • Guidance to help determine whether testing is appropriate for you — with no pressure to proceed

  • Following your consultation, you’ll receive a written summary of the discussion.

  • You can do this face- to-face or in the comfort of your own home

Step 2: Test Ordering & Sample Collection

If you decide to proceed with testing, we’ll make the process simple and flexible:

  • You can complete your sample in-clinic or from the comfort of your home

  • For home testing, a saliva collection kit will be shipped directly to you with easy instructions and a pre-paid return envelope

  • If collected in clinic, your sample will be taken during your appointment — no additional steps required

  • No blood collection is typically required

  • You only pay for your initial consult and payment for the testing only happens if you decide to proceed.

Step 3: Results & Genetic Counselling

Understanding your results is just as important as the testing itself.

  • Meet with your genetic counsellor for a comprehensive results review

  • Receive clear, personalised explanations of what your results mean

  • Ask questions and explore next steps with expert guidance

You’ll also receive a detailed written summary, which can be shared with your healthcare providers.
